Saxophonists Tim Warfield and Jonathan Ragonese will be performing & recorrding LIVE - just two saxophones - there will be some serious sparks flying! Tim was one of Jonathan’s main influences and we expect this event will not be for the faint of heart. The ticket price also includes a copy of the recording. This year's Festival concert double billing features two great quartets lead by legendary saxophonist Houston Person and the popular guitarist Russell Malone.

Our 36th annual Festival Concert will be at the beautiful Mt.Gretna Playhouse again this year and feature two giants in the jazz world - saxophonist Houston Person and guitarist Russell Malone. Both artists will perform with their own quartets with the concert starting at 7:30 p.m. This concert is a joint production of the Central PA Friends of Jazz and Gretna Music.
Houston Person has 75 recordings as a leader and has performed with Lena Horne, Lou Rawls, Etta Jones, Horace Silver and countless other jazz masters inn his illustrious career. Person is known for his distinctive sassy sound and his expressive style of playing. He received the Eubie Blake Jazz Award in 1982.
Russell Malone was initially inspired by guitarist George Benson and began playing with legendary organist Jimmy Smith in the late 1980's. He became a member of Harry Connick's Big Band in the 1990's and then joined Diana Krall's ensemble, appearing on several Grammy winning recordings..He has toured and recorded with both Branford and Wynton Marsalis, Ray Brown, Christian McBride and many others.

The Saturday Jazz Picnic has a found a great new home – Indian Echo Caverns. Located just off the Hummelstown exit of Hwy. 322 between Hershey and Harrisburg, they have many activities for families including a petting zoo, gift shop and more. There are also tours of the caverns available as well . Food may be purchased or you can bring your own basket of goodies. Our CPFJ Youth Band directed by Ron Waters, will perform as well as several great area bands - with live music from 2-7 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for CPFJ members and $5 for students (children under 12 are free)
